Support Line
The NSIT Support Line provides technical support to students, staff, and faculty of the University of Chicago. Our hours are currently 8:30AM to 6:00PM, Monday through Friday. We provide support via email at support@uchicago.edu, over the phone at (773) 834-8324, or 4-TECH, and you can also look through our online troubleshooting documentation.
Phishing Email Still Making the Rounds
Phishing emails continue to pester the University. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but all of them want similar information: they are a malicious attempt to obtain passwords. Some have the subject "(CONFIRM YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS)" and request that the recipient respond with their password, while others purport to be directly from the "Uchicago Webmail Team." To complicate matters, some emails contain confusing features – they may seem to come from support@uchicago.edu or have the legitimate webmail.uchicago.edu address.
Despite these features, remember one key thing: NSIT will NEVER ask for your password. We treat passwords like social security numbers or other sensitive information: confidential. If you ever have any questions about the legitimacy of a communication, please contact NSIT via 4-TECH or support@uchicago.edu before responding with personal information.
Connectivity Package 14.0 Available
Version 14.0 of the NSIT Connectivity Package is now available for download and via CD. See our included software page for a full list of contents.
Note: There is a bug in the Cisco VPN Client extra on the CP14.0 CD. We apologize for the inconvenience and recommend anyone interested in obtaining this software visit the VPN download page for instructions on completing your installation.
Incoming students (both undergraduates and graduates) attending NSIT arrival events will be given priority for the first shipment of 14.0 CDs. People already using version 11.1 or later, however, don't need a CD; just run the "Connect Pack Updater" to automatically upgrade over the network! It's in the NSIT Connectivity Package group in the Programs listing on Windows, or the Applications folder on OS X. If you need the software for a new install, you can download from this site.
Software Update Notice!
Due to recently released operating system upgrades for both PCs and Macintoshes, we have obtained and released new Cisco VPN clients which are compatible with Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) and Windows Vista. Visit the NSIT Site Licensing downloads section to obtain the updated clients. We do not recommend updating your VPN software unless absolutely required.
McAfee has also released VirusScan 8.6 for Macintoshes using OS 10.4 and 10.5. Visit antivirus.uchicago.edu to download this software.
