Secure POP for Microsoft Outlook 2007
Please note that we are unable to support email clients configured in this manner; the recommended and supported solution for accessing your NSIT email account is Mozilla Thunderbird, as configured by the NSIT Connectivity Package. You can pick up the Connectivity Package free of charge from the ID & Privileges Office or the NSIT Solution Center.
Configuration Instructions
These instructions assume that you have just installed Microsoft Office 2007 and have not configured anything yet. To get started, open Microsoft Outlook.
- Outlook may ask if you wish to import any other accounts. Click "No."
- Next, you will start the account setup. Go to Tools → Account Settings.... It will bring up the Account Settings window. Make sure you're on the E-mail tab, then click the "New" button.

- Outlook will ask which kind of account to set up. Choose the "Internet E-mail" option, then press next.

- Outlook will ask you to put in information for your name, email address, and password for "Auto Account Setup." Do not enter the information. Instead, check the "Manually configure server settings or additional server types" box. Click next.

- In the next screen, enter the information as pictured.

- Click on the "More Settings..." button.
- Click on the Outgoing Server tab. Check the box that says "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." Make sure "Use the same settings as my incoming mail server" is checked.
- Click on the Advanced tab.

- Check the checkbox beneath the "Incoming server (POP3)" that says, "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)." The port number should change to 995. Under "Outgoing server (SMTP)", use the dropdown menu to select SSL. Make sure to change the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" port number 465. Once that's done, click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish. You're done! Don't forget to also close the Account Settings window.

Microsoft Outlook 2007 is now configured to check email securely on NSIT email servers!
