How to Configure IMAP Access to xMail

Below, we have some generic instructions for configuring your third-party email client -- Mozilla Thunderbird, for example -- to access xMail via IMAP. Please note these instructions are very general, and provided as a courtesy for those users comfortable using them. NSIT does not recommend this configuration.

Note: for off-campus usage of xMail's IMAP functionality, you must have an active VPN connection.

Username: CNetID.

Password: CNet password.

Incoming Mail Server: xmail.uchicago.edu. You must enable SSL for this connection over port 993.

Outgoing Mail Server: authsmtp.uchicago.edu, with SSL enabled over port 465. Use your CNetID and password to authenticate.
