Setting up notifications

Subscriptions are notifications that inform you when someone has viewed, changed or commented on a file or directory. When enabled, WebShare sends an email notification to "your CNetID"@uchicago.edu. You determine the type of report and the frequency of the report when you create the subscription.

You must create subscriptions from the file or directory for which you want a notification. You can view or cancel an existing subscription by clicking the "Subscriptions" link under your name in the left navigation bar.

To create a new Subscription:

  1. From your directory listing, choose the file or directory for which you want to create a notification by clicking on Manage Webshare image button for that file or directory.
  2. Click the "Subscriptions" link under the "Collaboration" section.
  3. Click the Create Subscription Webshare image button in the top toolbar.
  4. Select the type of subscription you want to set.
  5. Change Events occur when a/an:
    • File is uploaded, moved or deleted
    • Existing file is overwritten
    • Sub-directory is created, moved or deleted
    • File is initially uploaded to a directory
    • Directory has been deleted
  6. Read Events occur when someone views, opens, copies or downloads a file.
  7. Comment Events occur when someone creates a comment on a file or directory.
  8. Select whether you want to receive an email notification as the event occurs or as a Daily Report. The Daily Report sends all notifications for all of your subscriptions at once.
  9. Click the Ok button.
