Searching for a file
You may search for files you own as well as others files to which you have access.
Searches can be saved, edited, and deleted. The last search you ran is automatically saved in the Searches section in the left navigation bar.
There are two types of searches: Basic and Advanced.
- A Basic Search allows you to search for a file based on the file's name and content.
- An Advanced Search allows you to search for a file based on the file's name, the file's properties or a combination of both.
Performing a Basic Search
A Basic Search allows you to search for a file based on its name or content.
- Click the Search button in the top toolbar.
- Enter your search criteria.
- Enter a word or partial word of the name of the file you wish to find in the "All or part of the file name" field.
- Enter a word of the content of the file you wish to find in the "A word or phrase in the file" field.
- Enter the directory path or browse for the folder in which you wish to search.
- If you want to save your search, check the "Save this search as" checkbox and enter a name in the adjacent field.
- Click the Search button.
The search results display a list of the files matching your criteria.
Performing an Advanced Search
An Advanced Search allows you to search for a file based on each individual file property or a combination of those properties.
When selecting criteria for your search, remember that the results returned by the search must match ALL of the chosen criteria.
- Click the Search button in the top toolbar. Select "Advanced Search" from the Search Mode drop-down list. To add advanced criteria, choose from the Select a Property drop-down list. Add as many criteria as you wish.
Advanced Search criteria are as follows:
| Property Name | Property Search Choice | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Size | less than, equals, greater than | You can specify an exact size match (equals) or specify one which is larger or smaller than a particular size. The file size in question is measured in bytes. |
| Creation Date | before, on, or after | You can specify a date on, before, or after which the file was created. Use the calendar icon to find the specific date. |
| Last Modified by | You can specify a date on, before, or after which the file was created. Use the calendar icon to find the specific date. | |
| A word or phrase in the comments | You can search on a word or phrase which the file contains in its comments. This field is case-insensitive. Therefore, you can search on an all lowercase word, for example, and the search will find that word whether or not the word is all lowercase, all uppercase, or a mix of lowercase and uppercase letters. | |
| Custom Property | with value equal to, with value containing | You can search on any custom property you create for files. For more information about Custom Properties, refer to Custom Properties. |
