Mozilla Integrated Web Search

The Mozilla browser includes the ability to configure your address bar to significantly reduce the time you spend looking for things on the web. Two easy to use search features are the Search Bar and keywords.

Search Bar

To search Google, simply type your query into Firefox's search bar in the upper right hand corner of your web browser and hit enter.

Mozilla Firefox documentation

You can query a wide variety of Internet search engines. To add a new search engine, click on the arrow in the left side of the search box and choose "Add Engines" from the drop down menu. If you add new search engines you can select which one is used by clicking on it in the same drop-down menu.

Keyword Searches

Google supports searches by keyword. For example, you could type google chocolate into Firefox's address bar to do a google search for the word chocolate. Other popular keywords include:

  • dict – searches dictionary.com for your search term's definition
  • wp – search Wikipedia (online free encyclopedia) for your search term
  • quot – checks Yahoo! finance for stock share value of your search term

Please note that the search available depends on which ones are in your bookmarks and the ones included by Firefox change from time to time. Look under "Quick Searches" in your bookmarks menu to see what is available on your version.
