Managing Mozilla Bookmarks

Mozilla provides a simple interface for importing, exporting, and managing your bookmarks. Even better, you can also append bookmarks directly to the browser's toolbar (called your Personal Toolbar) or break your bookmarks into several distinct sections.

Importing/Exporting Bookmarks

To import bookmarks into Mozilla, you'll first want to export them from your existing browser. If you are using Internet Explorer, for example, you can export your bookmarks by going to File → Import and Export then go through the walk-through. The end result will be a file called bookmarks.html. Import the bookmarks in Mozilla by going to Bookmarks → Manage Bookmarks and selecting Tools → Import. Point the wizard to the location of the bookmarks.htm file and click "Open".

Managing Bookmarks

The primary interface for managing bookmarks can be accessed through Bookmarks → Manage Bookmarks (as above). You can organize bookmarks into folders, add additional comments, or splice in separators. To move bookmarks around, just click and drag them to the new location. You can also sort based off a number of characteristics (such as name, location, date added) by going to View and select a characteristic.

Configuring Your Personal Toolbar

Probably the neatest of the Mozilla bookmark options is the ability to add sites directly onto your Personal Toolbar (which is the toolbar directly below the address bar). There are two ways to add a bookmark here: first, while surfing the web normally, just drag an address bar down to the tab which reads bookmarks. Alternately, in the Bookmark Manager (Bookmarks → Manage Bookmarks), simply place the bookmark inside the "Personal Toolbar Folder".
