CNetID? CNet Password? What Are Those For?
Most people have more usernames and passwords than they'd care to remember; to address this problem, NSIT has migrated towards a single set of credentials for authenticating against all common NSIT services. The result of this is the CNetID and CNet passwords – a single username/password pair to authenticate against as many services as possible.
Some common services using the CNetID and CNet password include @uchicago.edu email access, the modem pool, web proxy authentication, Chalk, and much much more. For additional details, read our password soup article.

I'm a new student or staff, but I can't claim my CNetID! Help!
If you're receiving an error that says your information can't be verified/can't be found, it most likely hasn't been entered into the data feeds yet. You'll be eligible as soon as your department or program submits the necessary paperwork and it gets processed. Wait a day or two, then attempt to reclaim it -- if you still can't claim it, contact the Identification and Privileges Office (IPO) at 773-702-8782 or accounts@uchicago.edu for further assistance.

I forgot my CNet password... how can I reset it?
If you've forgotten your CNet Password (or even if you haven't), you can change your CNet password through the CNet Account Management website. If you are unable to reset it through the CNet website, you can reset it in person at the Identification and Privileges Office (IPO) in the Regenstein library.

I'm leaving the University -- how long will my account remain open?
Depending on your affiliation with the University, your account will remain open for a certain period of time:
- Students: up to two quarters
- Faculty: up to thirty days
- Staff: a few days
Once an account is no longer eligible for University services, it will enter our account closure process. See our Account Closure Timeline for more info on what happens once this process begins.

It's early on a Sunday/Wednesday morning, and I can't log in to email. What's happening?
The NSIT email systems undergo regular maintenance from 4 AM to 8 AM Central Time on Wednesday and Sunday mornings. Depending on the nature of the maintenance on a particular day, email services may be unavailable, or only sporadically available, during these timeframes.
